MADEIRA: Floating garden in the Atlantic

Let yourself succumb to the fascination of the deep blue sea and its contrast with the emerald green of the forests and mountains – this is Madeira.

One of Madeira’s greatest tourist attractions is its luxuriant and varied vegetation, which combines the characteristics of tropical and mediterranean climates.

During your holiday, you pay a visit to the Laurisilva Forest, classified by Unesco as world heritage both for its exuberance and rarity. Originating from the Tertiary Era, this forest may be considered a living relict, both because of the area that it occupies and because of its excellent state of conservation.

Due to the all year round climate conditions, approx 22°C, you can admire flowers such as orchids, birds-of-paradise, anthuriums, magnolias, azaleas, proteas and many others, all growing in a natural environment.

Discover the centre of Funchal, a traditional, yet fairly cosmopolitan, city by walking through its streets and alleyways which are lined by beautiful, flower-strewn houses. See the old squares that are carefully restored with beautiful Portuguese patterned stones, flanked by buildings built in the typical Madeiran style that really are architectural gems.
