Stockholm, Lakes, Canals and Islands – 13 days.

Sweden is a country which I have been in love with for many years and I have always hoped to share my passion for this beautiful country by taking my travel members there.

This holiday is very exciting with a full itinerary and concludes with a wonderful two night cruise on the famous Gota canal on the 25 cabin, Wilhelm Tham, one of the world’s oldest steam ships, now adapted to diesel.

The Göta Canal was constructed in the early 19th century. The canal is 190 km (120 mi) long, of which 87 km (54 mi) were dug or blasted, with a width varying between 7–14 m (23–46 ft) and a maximum depth of about 3 m (9.8 ft). It is a part of a waterway 390 km (240 mi) long, linking a number of lakes and rivers to provide a route from Göteborg on the west coast to Söderköping on the Baltic Sea. The Göta Canal was officially opened on 26 September 1832.

Sweden is a sparsely populated country, characterised by its long coastline, extensive forests and numerous lakes. It is one of the world’s northernmost countries.

Sweden experiences extreme contrasts between its long summer days and equally long winter nights. In the summer, the sun stays in the sky around the clock in the parts of Sweden north of the Arctic Circle, but even as far south as Stockholm (59°N) the June nights have only a few hours of semi-darkness.

All Scandinavian countries are expensive to visit but Sweden with it’s immaculate hotels and incredible food make it something special and absolutely everything is included in the tour price.
