The aim of this book is to offer a wide selection of Icelandic cross stitch designs without concentrating on any one particular subject. It is first and foremost a practical book. Much of the layout of the book is dedicated to sewn designs which are immediately followed by identical charts, each with clear symbols denoting colours, making it easy to check that you are using the correct colours by just flicking back the page.

Easy to see large scale charts are provided for all the designs making the embroideries a pleasure to stitch. They are worked simply and quickly in cross stitch without the use of a cumbersome frame, while the author’s practical tips and advice ensure perfect results every time. The finished embroideries can be used in a variety of ways and suggestions are given throughout, with full instructions provided for making up into cushions and framed pictures.

This book is a must for every needlepoint enthusiast who is looking for new and exciting designs to stitch!

I bought this book about 15 years ago, lent it to someone and didn’t get it back, grrr! So I bought another copy because I knew that I’d loved it and I wanted to work a needlepoint rug and remembered that there are large needlepoint bed covers in this book so a rug should be reasonably easy to design. There are lots of patterns from borders and motifs to a beautiful Icelandic Knot ( similar to Celtic ) which I put in the centre of a sampler I made in cross stitch when I had the first book. All the patterns can be worked in cross stitch as well as needlepoint tent stitch. There are patterns for cushion fronts, stool covers, pictures and large bed covers amongst others. Great book, glad I was able to get another copy !
Excellent book on old Icelandic tapestry design, in needlepoint. Jona Sparey gives good instructions and her colour-selections is wonderful. I look forward to make some of my own, starting with one of the small ones.
Fantastic book! Beautiful patterns to copy and straight forward instructions to follow. Just what I needed.
